East Sussex, UK. (May 22)

Spent the week exploring the East Sussex coastline from our base at a campsite hidden away in the rolling hills and forests near the village of Crowhurst.

Working from “home”

Over the five days we visited Battle, Bodiam, Hastings, Rye and Eastbourne, explored castles and historic buildings, walked the cliffs from Seven Sisters to Beachy Head and found some great restaurants along the way. The weather was kind with sunny days and an ideal temperatures for walking – well except for a visit to Camber Sands where we we almost blown off our feet. We ended the week with an evening in the “Grapevine” a champagne and jazz bar in Rye, which joins “Chequers” in Battle (for really good pub food and local ale) and “Isabella” in the Old Town at Hastings (for delicious Turkish cuisine) as places we’d recommend. So much history in this little corner of England and so close to home. Worth getting the train too, Crowhurst station is only a short stagger from the campsite – it’s fun walking the paths and lanes in the dark after a few beers in the local towns!
