Cambridgeshire (Aug 23)
We headed for the small market town of Saffron Waldron and the English Heritage site of Audley End House, Cambridgeshire where OMD, Heaven 17 and Soft Cell were playing on a stage right next to a stunning 17th century country house.
Peroxide blondes and slap heads (like me) bopped about as if the past 40 years hadn’t happened.
We travelled up early, booking ourselves into a small pop-up campsite near the tiny village of Debden. It was nestled in a beautiful location, miles from anywhere and in the heart of farming country. The Campsite managers’ husband was driving the combined harvester in the field next to us.
We were gifted with an amazing weather window where the sun shone during the performance and we were bathed in balmy temperatures of over 27°C’s. It stayed warm overnight too, so camping was a dream – no log burner needed this time! Given the cold and wet weather we’ve had over the past week we couldn’t believe our luck.
With local taxi firms charging a small fortune for short journeys we decided to walk to the venue, breaking up the journey with a short train ride half way through. We were joined by Bianca, who was camping alone at our site, and later by Karen a lady who was on the same train.
Emma and I had VIP tickets for this event (which we received as a gift), and so were spoilt with a private bar comfy seating and other amazing facilities.
We met up with Bianca after the event for the return journey back to the campsite in the dark and woke up late the next morning for a leisurely breakfast before heading home.
