The Levellers

The Levellers

The Levellers always put on a great show, but this acoustic set at the end of their 2025 Spring Tour was better than most, and I’ve seen them a few times!

The audience, who were mostly in our age group, initially sat in their allocated seats at the Fairfield Halls venue Croydon. However, as soon as their set list reached “One Way”, it was a cue for the anarchist in all of us to bubble up to the surface…. every inch of floor space at the front and down the aisles was taken up with everyone dancing and singing to tunes both old and new. What seats? they certainly weren’t needed anymore!

Before they stepped up the pace, their set included the song, Julie, which always reminds me of an old friend by the same name who we lost to cancer a few years ago, she was an avid Levellers fan. The last time we met was when we had to use our “initiative” to gain entry to a local festival where they were headlining. How did we do it? Well the less said about that the better… but suffice to say we made it, and the adventure is one I’ll never forget.

Mark Chadwick is looking a little older these days, along with the rest of the band and their audience, but I am guessing no one cares…

We ended the night just around the corner in RiffRaffs a local drinking hole with music and great vibes; it’s a venue we visit quite regularly nowadays. Then time for the bus back to Emma’s.

A great night!
