Marc Broussard at KoKo Camden Town (Oct 24)

Last night saw us heading off to Camden to see Marc Broussard an American singer songwriter perform at KOKO. It was a packed house.

He has a style is described as “Bayou Soul”, which is a mixture of all things “southern”.

‘Twas a last minute decision, as our plans for the night changed at the 11th hour. We bought tickets on the hoof, en-root to the venue.

Before that, we headed for a restaurant that has only been open for about 8 weeks called Jugad in Camden Market, it is a great Indian style restaurant with superb quality food. I’d recommend it for a simple menu that’s a little different from the norm.

It’s nice to wander the streets of Camden Town, Lock and Market. There is always something to see. I even managed to pick up a ‘Royal Stallion’ hat at the market for half the price I’d usually pay. It’s probably a knock off, but looks pretty legit’.

We popped in for a pint in The Farrier, which is built on the site of the old horse hospital and sits at the top end of the Market. We like it here, and headed for the comfy chairs on the left. Unlike the last time we came, when it was the only pub in the Market, it now has plenty of competition. The whole place was buzzing with plenty of people enjoying the dry weather.

The full moon was beautiful casting reflections on the canal – I just love nights like this.

We usually head for the Blues Kitchen when in this area, but we headed instead for a pub called the Camden Head, which has a comedy store above it. Might try that out next time – it’s popular so tickets need to be bought in advance.

Marc Broussard put on a great performance and has some really catchy songs. Well worth going to see him. It was also nice to try out a venue we’ve not been to before.

Impromptu nights like this are just the best. We’re coming back to KoKo, it’s a large venue but quite intimate too. Plenty of places to wander to get a good view of the artist or have a boogie!
