Music in the City (oct 24)
This weekend event in Southampton has been growing in both size and quality for a few years, and Saturday was just perfect – with the weather also playing ball too.
I decided to spend the afternoon wandering around the pubs and clubs at just some of the 60 odd venues listening to a handful of the 350 bands that were booked to entertain the crowds over the weekend. Rock, folk, reggae, dance, there was a wide variety to choose from.
On top of the dozens of pubs that were participating, the city had also opened up some unusual places for bands to play, like some medieval vaults that are usually closed to the public.
I had arranged to meet up with Jonathan (Emma’s brother), Lorrayne and Sophie,
and when we met we toured a few venues including the Undercroft (opposite the Titanic), St Michael’s Vaults, Dancing Man, Platform Tavern, St Michael’s square and The Duke of Wellington.
…but whilst waiting, who should I bump into…. My ex wife and her chap Duncan with his son Matt. Well, we do live in the same city so shouldn’t have been surprised!
We stood in a small group for about twenty minutes listening to a band in “The Overdraft” before I headed off on my merry way to meet Jonathan and co.
This really is growing and getting better each year. So for next years diary.
