YNot Festival – Peak District (July 23)

A weekend away at Ynot music festival in the middle of the Peak District with Emma, Hannah and Rachael.

It was the first time we’ve tried this one, and with about 30,000 people it is a little larger than many of the festivals we generally head for these days. That said, it’s a small venue with short distances between the camping fields and music stages (of which there are several).

There was a great selection of bands, which occasionally drew a younger demographic, but also some old classics like Paul Weller, James, Charlatans and Kasabian, so the audience was very mixed.

My personal favourite was Kasabian who headlined on Saturday night. It was as good as live music gets… one banger after another. They opened with Club Foot and the place just went nuts… turned out we were far too close to the front for our own good! So we ended up retreating back about twenty rows when our self preservation instincts kicked in! Mosh pits are for the young!

The weather was great for the most part, raining only on the Sunday afternoon which turned the main drag into a quagmire. But it was warm throughout, especially overnight, so we were toasty and dry when we got back to the tent.

Our neighbours for the weekend were a blast, especially the mad publicans from Norwich, who we will look up when we’re in that neck of the woods.

…And the last time I saw the Charlatans was way back in 1998 at Charlton Park, Tim Burgess was completely stoned on stage and made a bit of a mess of it – but this weekend he was on form and their set was awesome.

The scenery around the venue was awesome, rolling hills and open countryside.

Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!

We were lucky with the weather which stayed dry until the last day when we experienced rain for the first time in a while.

The trip back to the car was interesting….

Any excuse to wear make-up
