Sicily, Italy. (Dec 21)

Just back from a fabulous weekend in Sicily exploring Palermo and the surrounding region from our base on a quirky wooden boat moored up in the old harbour.

The weather was mostly kind to us, with the exception of Monday when the heavens opened, but we came prepared for it!
Learned so much about the island and how the fusion of cultures has come about over the past couple of thousand years and saw some awesome architecture and art.

Being nearer to Tunis and the North African coast than Rome there is a huge Arabic influence here too. I didn’t realise Sicily was under Arab control for 240 years in the Middle Ages which accounts for much of the local traditions and food.
It feels like we had only scratched the surface so we will have to come back at some point!
Had some great meals and wine and managed over 60,000 steps!

We returned to the UK only a few hours ahead of the new tougher travel restriction deadline, having booked the weekend when the restrictions were relaxed a few weeks ago. Things move very fast these days!
