Road trip, Amalfi Coast, Italy. (Sep 20)

We found the unspoilt Mediterranean beaches we were seeking. The first near Conca dei Marini. It invited us in for a welcome swim after a hot and lengthy trek down the coastal path. ‘Twas sheer bliss and for most of the time we were the only ones in the water.
Sunday night’s stopover in the small village of Bomerano was memorable. It is a quaint place we found after a drive through the lush mountainous “Valle Della Ferriere” nature reserve, to the south of Pompei. It was called Olimpo Degli Dei and right on the edge of the Amalfi coast.

Our B&B hosts could not have been more delightful, giving us guidance on where to explore and to enjoy an evening meal. They also provided us with a breakfast fit for a king.
It is often the case when you have no plans that things just “click” into place. Like Monday afternoon for example. As we travelled along the beautifully rustic Amalfi coast road from Amalfi to Positano, taking in the views and contemplating what to do next, we pulled into a roadside car park to what looked like a “nice enough” pit stop. We were looking for some food and the chance to check out local accommodation online.

The sprightly old boy who waved us into the car park was noticeably relieved when my hand gestured towards my mouth indicating that we were potential customers and not only looking for a parking space. He showed us down some (more) steep cliff edge steps that took us to what was THE most amazing restaurant with a view . It took our breath away. We ordered a simple dish, recommended by yet another old boy who made it known to us what HE though we should eat… locally caught pan fried fish and home made pasta. Good choice! Delicious. Oh and the first of a few “half litre” jugs of house red.

By the time we finished our meal the only cloud we have seen all week cast a welcome barrier overhead.
So we talked more and relaxed, reminiscing on what a lovely break we have already had; we looked along the coast and saw the name of a hotel stencilled on the building next to us. So we looked it up online and got the internet price for a room.
Off I trotted to the reception (which was only a few feet away at the other end of the restaurant) and with my confidence buoyed by a glass of vino, I showed my phone to the chap at the desk. “I can offer you the same price but upgrade you to a superior room” was his reply – without me saying a word!
Done.

So here we are.
Relaxing on our own private terrace surrounded by citrus fruits, fig trees and vines overlooking the wonderful Amalfi coastline and watching the super yachts and catamarans pass by.
The sun’s out again!
I love this place. Oh and we booked a second night here too… and why not? It’s so perfectly located and close to a path which takes us off to yet another secluded cove. Which is where we are headed now.
Off to do some more exploring.
We might even find some more wine!
