Cassis France (Oct 19)
I paid a fleeting visit here in August with Natty and Django on our annual tour de Europe. It was no where near long enough!
I made a promise to return.
So here I am again, this time with Emma, soaking up the last of the summer sun and enjoying some amazing food and wine.
Cassis has a hazy old world charm about it, harking back to holiday brochures of the past. It has a vibrant buzz but without the pretentiousness of some of the top end French resorts just up the coast.
We’ve booked a tiny little ground floor apartment close to the heart of the town, within staggering distance of the bars and restaurants in the ancient harbour. This was very last minute, and reasonably priced too.
This region is amazing. Not too many Brits that we can see or hear. Lots of french and for some reason Americans and Australians. Poor Emma had to put up with me dragging her along to Calanque d’En-Vau via the coastal footpath. It turned out to be less of a walk but more of a 4 hour hike with a few steep bits… still the scenery was breathtaking, and the swim on the way back refreshing. Off to find a restaurant this evening for our last night before heading back tomorrow. Love this region. Only a short hop to Marseilles from Heathrow. Coming back.
